Opened in 2006, House of Shambhala is a typical Tibetan courtyard hotel which is owned by Shambhala Serei, a Tibetan chain of a boutique in China. It is nestled in the maze of alleyways east of the Barkor street, in the centre of the old section of the Lhasa city.
The three-storey House of Shambhala has nine rooms which are uniquely decorated with traditional Tibetan décor and furniture painted in gold and crimson, furry white rugs and exquisite Buddhist thangka paintings. The stone walls and rough-hewn wooden floors give the place a rustic, medieval feel. Basic facilities like heating system, flat screen TV with satellite channels, 24h hot water, mini bar… are available in room, ensuring a comfortable stay for guests. The bathrooms have stone shower stalls, heat lamps, fragrant Tibetan soaps and complimentary toiletries.
House of Shambhala is within minutes' walking distance to the must-sees of Lhasa like Jokhang Temple and Potala Palace, stores and canteens. For the guests' convenience, hotel sells oxygen canisters in the lobby to help you cope with the altitude. It is also features a spa with sauna, yoga space and a hip, young female Tibetan yogini. Tibetan Tantric Massage is also available. Hotel's rooftop restaurant and cafe offers guests a 360-degree view of Lhasa with spectacular views of the Potala Palace and the golden rooftops of the Jokang Temple.
