Opened in January 2014, Masikryong Ski Resort in Wonsan features everything modern ski resorts do – luxury Masikryong Hotel, ski-lifts , ski school ski rentals, children's snow park and various entertaining facilities. It is part of a drive by DPRK's leader Kim Jong-un to increase foreign visitor numbers from 200,000 to 1 million per annum by 2016.
International ski guests now can stay at the deluxe Masikryong Hotel which is part of the Masikryong Ski Resort complex. Designed by the Pyongyang Architectural Institute, hotel features 120 spacious, well designed rooms and suites in two pyramid shaped buildings. All rooms have contemporary design and outfitted with comfortable western style beds and private balconies.
Covering an area of 1,412 hectares, the Masikryong Ski Resort is a comprehensive winter sports centre perfectly prepared for skiing, skating and sleighing. You can rent gear and equipment at the resort's rent shop. There are four chairlifts which run from 600 to 2,000 meters in different directions. One of which will bring you to the summit of Taehwa Peak 1,360 m high above sea level and runs down 5,000 m. For relaxation, Masikryong Hotel features a wide range of amenities include a cafe, bookstore, swimming pool, souvenir shop, karaoke rooms, a dance hall, beauty salon and a room for international telecommunications. The bar offers a range of drinks from over the world. Korean, Western and Chinese food are available.
