Stroll at leisurely pace through the old town and market, exploring the melange of Alpine architecture, historic buildings and incredible customs that make Takayama so special and unique. Sample regional specialties washed down with glass of locally-brewed sake.

What you are gonna do

    Being picked up by a local guide at 9:30, then hit the streets of the old town where Alpine architecture and traditional houses can be seen at every turn. Hear your guide explains about the history of the shops, each one having its own link to the city's history and culture. Browse the different products on offer to learn about the city's traditions.

    Make a stop at some of the most well-known local shops in the town and its market to taste local delicacies. Savour items such as Takayama rice dumplings, miso, a Japanese paste made from soybeans, salt and rice and homemade sweets. Discover how these items are made from locally-grown ingredients and using old family recipes.
  • 03

    There is also an opportunity to sample sake produced in one of the town's breweries. Afterwards, head back to the hotel or spend more time exploring the charming town independently.
