Visit danum valley

Danum Valley Conservation Area is comprised of mostly lowland rainforest. It is a delightful slice of Borneo at its very best. It was an informal preserve until the 1990s, when the government of Eastern (Sabah) Malaysia saw its great potential for tourism, as well as the need to formally protect its flora and fauna. Comprising 440 sq km of central Sabah, the Conservation Area is home to a mind-blowing spectrum of creatures: orangutans, tarsiers, sambar deer, bearded pigs, flying squirrels, king cobras, proboscis monkeys, red-leaf monkeys, gibbons and pygmy elephants, though you'd be lucky to spot most of them. The area is also known for its medium-sized cats, with the beautifully marked clouded leopard spotted on night drives, as well as the flat-headed cat, marbled cat, leopard cat and cartoon-like bay cat.

One of the very best features of this land is that it is totally pristine. Recognised as one of the world's most complex ecosystems, a new species of plant is found by scientists here every week. Before becoming a park, no humans had lived here. There was no mining or logging. Not many other parks in Southeast Asia can make this very specific claim.
