Visit gaya island

Gaya Island is a beautiful island off the coast of East Malaysia. The sunshine and gentle breezes, as well as lovely scenery, make it an outstanding destination. The island is fairly large, about 1,400 hectares, and ten minutes away from Kota Kinabalu. It is the largest and most luxurious island in the Tunku Abdul Rahman National Park. The word “Gaya” means “big.” There are some large ridges here that top out at 1,000 feet. Covered with lush and virgin forest, it has been a forest reserve since the early 1920’s. The park in total size would cover 12,000 American-sized football fields. The entire area was featured in an interesting Hollywood film entitled “Farewell to the King”. Activities include diving, trekking, photography and beachcombing.

Best Time to Visit Gaya Island

Gaya Island has two weather seasons, a dry spell from February to August, and a wetter period from September to January. However the weather is unpredictable and is it not uncommon to have bright sunshine followed by a bout of heavy rain. The good news is that these tropical downpours help cut through the humidity and provide welcome relief from the heat. The sun often follows the showers and things dry up pretty quickly.
