It's not hard to see why travellers become entranced with Kampot. This riverside charming compact town, with streets rimmed by dilapidated shophouse architecture on the north bank of the Teuk Chhou River (aka Kampong Bay River), enjoys one of the nicest settings in Cambodia, and has become a popular destination for weekending Khmer and expats from Phnom Penh, as well as for foreign tourists. Long described as “sleepy”, the Kampot of today is transforming into a lively tourist destination, with plenty of good restaurants, bars and music to be found. The town makes an excellent base from which to explore Bokor National Park. And of course, you must pick up your own pack of the best pepper in the world, straight from the source.

Best time to visit Kampot is during the months from November to January. November to January are the coolest months here, in terms of the weather. Therefore, you can plan a trip around Christmas and New Year's, and visit the beautiful coastal town during its cool winter months.
If you visit between February and April, it will be hot, dry and dusty. Wet season runs from May to October courtesy of the southwest monsoon. Wet season brings some three-quarters of Cambodia's annual rainfall. July to September are the wettest months.
