Visit nampo

Southwest of Pyongyang lies the industrial powerhouse of Nampo, the center of North Korea's shipbuilding industry. Once a sleepy fishing village, Nampo was opened for foreign trade in 1897, and has never looked back. Because of the crucial role Nampo played in receiving foreign trade and, recently, aid, it was designated a special city - almost on par with the capital of Pyongyang itself.

Nampo is located on the west coast and on the estuary of the Taedong River, the same river that runs through Pyongyang. The city is only a 45 minute drive and 50 kilometers southwest of Pyongyang. The population of 367,000 makes it the 4th biggest city of the DPRK.
