Ubud is Bali's cultural heart in many ways. Located in the cool mountains, just an hour's drive north of the airport, the town is cool and pleasant, and provides a refreshing dose of Balinese culture in a lush rural setting. Although the dirt tracks and coconut groves have long given over to traffic-clogged streets and glass-fronted chain-stores, this Balinese global village still manages to retain the lure that first charmed the international glitterati. Gamelan orchestra concerts and Balinese theatre performances are held regularly, and the town has a good assortment of art galleries, antique shops and laid-back cafes. Monkeys cavort in the countryside around town, which dazzles with hidden valleys and hillsides blanketed in tumbling rice paddies. This traditional country town is also home to one of Bali's royal families..

Best Time to Visit Ubud
Best time to visit Ubud is during dry season months from June to September. The weather in July & August (peak season) is sunny and very warm during the day, and generally clear and cool in the evenings. Ladies should consider bringing a light wrap for the evenings. The months of July and August have great weather and coincide with summer holidays in Europe and North America, and this is when Ubud is most crowded.
