DAY 01: VANG VIENG ARRIVAL
Our journey will start from the Heritage town of Luang Prabang along road to Vang Vieng, a riverside town on the Nam Song River surrounded by spectacular limestone karst scenery. It is a popular tourist destination with landscape of authentic Lao countryside. Surrounded by karst landscape, Vang Vieng overflows many interesting activities like caving and tubing down the river.
Upon arrival in VANG VIENG, check in your hotel. Enjoy your lunch at a local restaurant. After a short rest, embark on a boat trip on the poetic Nam Song River offering the amazing scenery of karst rock. Enjoy the beautiful scenes of Laotian countryside while going down the river.
The rest of the afternoon is free at leisure with your driver and guide at your disposal. Enjoy a cup of coffee or soft drink while watching sunset on the Nam Song River! Have dinner at a local restaurant.
Today, take a full-day guided tour to discover the beautiful surroundings of Vang Vieng. From your hotel, drive to Tham Poukham located in Ban Na Thon Village, northwest of Vang Vieng. It takes about 20 minutes (8.1 km) to reach the cave. Upon arrival, climb some 100 meters and you will find the entry of a cave where the golden Buddha statue rests. Pass through a narrow entrance and opening up into the first chamber which contains a large bronze reclining Buddha, three meter long gold color Buddha image. The cave also called Golden Crab Cave because a few of the stalactites and stalagmites look like golden crabs. It also is home of bats, gibbons, monkeys, and antelope.
After exploring the cave, you might like to go for a cold swim in Blue Lagoon, a beautiful pool with crystal clear water. The lagoon is deep enough to halt your jump from the seven meter high trampoline on the great big tree. If you are not into that kind of action then you can jump from the two meter or from the rope that leaves you almost on top of the water.
Then transfer south to our next stop Tham Jang which is considered by many as Vang Vieng's most important cave. These amazing caves are situated to the south west of Vang Vieng. It was used as a bunker in defence against Yunnanese Chinese invaders in the early 19th Century and be home for local people in Vietnam – American war. Because its high location offering perfect view of Vang Vieng, the entire village moved there to sit out the war, and named their haven 'Tham Jang' (Hang Around Cave). Explore spectacular stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave. Go out cave, take a short trek on paths which leads to a viewpoint on the mountain. Enjoy stunning scenery of river and Vang Vieng’s countryside.
Once you climb back down you have the option to swim in the natural spring water or take part in some activities that Vang Vieng is famous for: kayaking or tubing on the Nam Song River surrounded by rugged karsts and beautiful rural scenery.
Then be transferred back to your hotel, with the option to stop at local villages and a market along the way. Relax for the rest of the day and enjoy a amazing sunset over Vang Vieng from your hotel.
