This trip takes you to visit some of the most spectacular caves on earth in Gunung Mulu National Park like the world’s largest underground chamber (the Sarawak Chamber), the world's largest cave passage (Deer Cave) and the longest cave in Southeast Asia (Clearwater Cave). In the park, you will explore a wide variety of mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish and insects and other invertebrates. In this tour, you can enjoy the natural treasures of Kinabalu Park and climb the highest mountain peak in Malaysia, measuring 4,095.2 m high.

DAY 01: MULU ARRIVAL
Upon arrival in MIRI (Mulu Airport), you will be welcomed by our Asia Senses travel guide and escorted to your hotel for check in and freshen up for upcoming adventures.
After lunch, depart for Mulu National Park Headquarters, for a 3.5km elevated plank-walk to Lang Cave - the longest cave passage in the world (2,161 metres long). Explore Lang Cave with its magnificent stalactites and stalagmites before proceeding to Deer Cave, where the biggest attraction is a colony of thousands of free-tailed bats. At dusk, witness an amazing spectacle of nature as thousands of these bats emerge from the cave in formation to forage for insects in the rainforest.
Experience night trekking through the jungle to the park headquarters. From luminescent fungi to blinking fireflies, the jungle comes alive at night time and this is a fabulous opportunity to view creatures not visible in daylight.
Return to the hotel for the dinner.

DAY 02: MULU
After breakfast, take a 15-minute longboat ride up the Melanau River to experience two more of Mulu’s ‘must-see’ limestone caves: Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave. These form part of the Sarawak Chamber - the largest connected cave system in the world. If water levels are low, it’s also possible to get there along a beautiful 4km hike.
Explore the “King’s Room” before proceeding to Clearwater Cave. Walk on plank walkways that were built on the sides of limestone cliffs leading to Clearwater Cave. Then, climb up steep steps that were carved into the side of the hill to get to the entrance of Clearwater Cave. Inside the cave, check out the details of its various features and limestone formations.
Picnic lunch before returning to the national park headquarters. This afternoon, traverse the local canopy walk for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area just as the jungle’s nocturnal inhabitants begin stirring into action. Return to the accommodation, dinner at leisure.

DAY 03: MULU – KOTA KINABALU
This morning, you will be transferred to the airport for a domestic flight to Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in the northern part of the island of Borneo. It is the gateway to Kinabalu National Park and well known for its bustling markets, modern boardwalk, beaches and waterfront Kota Kinabalu City Mosque.
Upon arrival in KOTA KINABALU, you will be picked up by your guide and receive a private transfer to the hotel for check in. The rest of day is free at leisure. Stroll through city center, explore the bustling streets. When evening falls enjoy the lively night market and stop at one of the spots for dinner.

DAY 04: KINABALU NATIONAL PARK
After breakfast, embark on a 1.5 hour transfer to Mount Kinabalu National Park, Malaysia's first World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO in December 2000 for its "outstanding universal values". The Park boasts more than 5,000 vascular plant species and being home to some 90 lowland mammal species and many others.
Upon arrival, start with a warm up walk through the Sabah Parks Botanical Garden. You guide will assist with national park registration and mountain guide allocation for the following day. Have lunch at a local restaurant before checking in to the national park lodge. Spend this afternoon at leisure and wander the trails in the park.
NOTE: A walking stick can be of great benefit during tomorrow climb (particularly on descent) and can be rented locally for MYR10 per stick.
Local porters are available from the national park headquarters.

DAY 05: CLIMB MOUNT KINABALU
Wake up early at 07:00AM, rise early for breakfast and walk down to the national park headquarters and meet your experienced guide who will assist with the registration for the climb. The park will allocate an experienced national park trekking guide.
After that, take the shuttle van to Timpohon Gate where your journey and quest to the summit of Borneo’s highest mountain begins. The trek will pass by different vegetation zones from Oak and Chestnut to mossy and eventually to alpine type of vegetations. The climb will take approximately 4-5 hours.
NOTE: Timpohon Gate closes to climbers at 10:00 AM
During the trek, take it slow and steady and break periodically at the rest stops – not just to rest but to engage with the stunning surrounding scenery that dramatically changes as one moves closer to the overnight rest house of Laban Rata, at 3270m. A packed lunch box is provided for the climb. In the late afternoon, arrive and check into Laban Rata Guesthouse. Buffet dinner is served at Laban Rata restaurant.

DAY 06: MOUNT KINABALU – KOTA KINABALU
01:30AM have an very early morning snack. Dress warm and prepare the day packs for the long but exciting day ahead.
02:30AM with headlamps attached, depart for continuation of journey towards the summit of Mount Kinabalu with the aim to catch the sunrise on Low’s Peak after 3-4 hour trek. The journey up to the Low’s peak at 4,095m will test your fitness and determination.
06:30AM watch the sunrise from the peak before descending to Laban Rata for breakfast. Descend slow and steady with a choice to take a break and sip on some ginger tea at Laban Rata (own account) to celebrate the achievement!
Return to Timpohon Gate for transfer back to the Kinabalu Park Headquarter (est. arrival 13:00PM to 15:00PM). Buffet lunch will be served at the Balsam restaurant in Mount Kinabalu Park. After that, meet the guide and driver and be transferred back to Kota Kinabalu.
